What To Expect from the Belmore Falls Walking Track?

Belmore Falls is one of those relaxing walks you just love to take on a lazy Sunday afternoon. The path is set amongst beautiful Australian bushland with a clearly marked dirt track from start to finish.

The first section of the track is the Hindmarsh Lookout Track. Beginning at the car park, this short track leads you out to the Hindmarsh Lookout with breathtaking views of the Kangaroo Valley below.

From here, the walk continues around to the right and follows along the cliff, overlooking the rainforest below. The track is rougher in this area, but as you walk, you can’t help but admire the beautiful surroundings as you breathe in the crisp clear air.

The first lookout to Belmore Falls is only about 200 metres from Hindmarsh Lookout just down the stairs to the left of the path.

When you are ready to move on, continue around the track which becomes a little steeper until you reach the top of the rise. Please be careful in this area as when the track is muddy it can be slippery.

This lookout marks the end of the Belmore Falls Walking Track and is the final lookout on this side of the falls. So, after you’re finished looking about, just make your way back the way you came in. Alternatively, you can take the small set of stairs up to the road and follow to the right back to the car park.

Now one question that’s seems to be on a lot of people’s minds…

Can you walk to the bottom of Belmore Falls?

For many years you could walk to the bottom to go for a swim, however, an increasing number of accidents have seen National Parks and Wildlife close the walking track. The authorities are serious about this, and will fine you $300 if caught disobeying the signs.

So the short answer is, unfortunately not anymore.

Thankfully though, this isn’t the only wild swimming location in the area. So, instead of risking a fine, or potentially your life, there is another stunning wild swimming location only 20 minutes up the road at Nellies Glen and Blue Pool.

But for Belmore Falls, this is a place to relax, unwind and enjoy the stunning scenery from the lookouts provided.

Where the first tier crashes and then falls over the second tier is just beautiful

If you still want to get a closer view of the falls, we have one more viewing platform to share with you. And it’s located just on the other side of Barrengarry creek.

So, if you would like to know how to get to this amazing lookout directly above Belmore Falls, check it out in our hidden gems of Belmore Falls.

Hidden Gems of Belmore Falls

As mentioned, the lookout directly above Belmore Falls is on the other side of Barrengarry Creek.

The quickest way to get there is by heading back to the car and as you start the drive out, you’ll notice a road to the left. Follow this road down to the creek crossing.

If it hasn’t been raining for a long while, the creek will be shallow and easy to cross, but unfortunately, most of the time the road is flooded.

If this is the case, we don’t recommend crossing, as the current is very strong.

Fortunately, there is another way to get to the other side by heading back to the main road and making your way out to the Illawarra Highway. From there, it’s only a 10 minute detour to bring you back into Belmore Falls Road via Pearsons Lane.

The drive is quite lovely through the towering Eucalypt canopy, but you will need to watch for potholes along the unsealed road.

Once back at the creek, find a park off to the side of the road and make your way down to the water.

Just before you reach the water’s edge, you will see a dirt track off to the right. After significant rainfall, this path can be soggy, but it is still manageable.

Follow the little track for about 2 minutes to bring you out onto the final lookout overlooking the valley…
